Abstract

Abstract This invention provides a relatively simple system for supplying digitally controlled amounts of noise-to-analog signals. The system includes a random noise generator which comprises a plurality of individual generators, means for digitally controlling the operation of each of those noise generators, a source of digital data to which the noise is to be added, a digital adder to which both the noise and the data is supplied, and a digital-to-analog converter which converts output from the digital adder into an analog signal which contains the desired proportion of noise.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 146 words
A digitally controlled system for applying a selected amount of noise to an information signal, said system comprising: a. a plurality of digitally controlled noise generators; b. means for applying a digital signal to each of said generators to turn on and off the output of said generators; c. a multi-digit full parallel adder having a first set of inputs and a second set of inputs and a third set of outputs; d. means for applying the outputs from said generators to said second set of inputs; e. a source of information signals having its outputs applied to said first set of inputs; f. a multi-input digital-to-analog converter; and g. means for connecting said third set of outputs from said adder to the inputs of said converter whereby the output from said converter comprises a voltage whose amplitude depends upon the sum output of said adder.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 146 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
The system defined in claim 1 wherein each of said noise generators includes an oscillator and a control means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
The system defined in claim 2 wherein said control means includes means for connecting said oscillator to the output of said generator.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 41 words
The system defined in claim 2 wherein said oscillator comprises an odd number of inverting amplifiers connected in series, and positive feedback means for connecting the output of the last amplifier to the input of the first amplifier in the series.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 44 words
The system defined in claim 3 wherein said oscillator comprises an odd number of inverting amplifiers connected in series, and positive feedback means for connecting the output of its last amplifier in the series to the input of the first amplifier in the series.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 52 words
The system defined in claim 5 wherein said control means comprises a clocked flip-flop having a set input, a restore input and a clock input, means for connecting the output of the last amplifier in said series to said set input, and means for applying said digital signal to said restore input.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
The system defined in claim 6 further including a source of clock pulses, and means for connecting the output of said source to said clock input.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 28 words
The system defined in claim 7 wherein said flip-flop includes a set output, and means for connecting said set output to one of said second set of inputs.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
The system defined in claim 8 wherein said means for applying a signal to said noise generators comprises a source of control works and a register for temporarily storing said control words.
