Abstract This disclosure describes new substituted 1-acyl-3-[2-(4-phenyl-1-piperidinyl)ethyl]indolines which possess hypotensive activity.

A compound selected from the group consisting of those of the formulae: ##SPC3## wherein R 1 is hydrogen or a lower alkoxy group, R 2 is hydrogen and R 1 and R 2 taken together is methylenedioxy, R 3 is a lower alkyl group, R 4 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group, and R 5 is hydrogen, chloro or trifluoromethyl; and the pharmacologically acceptable acid-addition salts thereof.
