Claim 1
Independent Claim
120 words
A composition adapted to topical application to animal tissue comprising: (1) a safe and effective amount of a pharmacologically active agent; (2) at least about 0.1% by weight of a sugar ester wherein said sugar ester is a member selected from the group consisting of sucrose monooctanoate, sucrose monodecanoate, sucrose monolaurate, sucrose monomyristate, sucrose monopalmitate, sucrose monostearate, sucrose monooleate, and sucrose dioleate; and (3) at least about 0.1% by weight of a phosphine oxide wherein said phosphine oxide is a member selected from the group consisting of octyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, nonyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, decyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, undecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, dodecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, 2-hydroxydecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide, 2-hydroxyundecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide and 2-hydroxydodecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
15 words
A composition according to claim 1 wherein the pharmacologically active agent is an anti-microbial agent.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
31 words
A composition according to claim 2 wherein the antimicrobial agent is a member selected from the group consisting of tetracycline hydrochloride and an equilibrium mixture of tetracycline hydrochloride and epi-tetracycline hydrochloride.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
20 words
A composition according to claim 3 comprising: 1% sucrose monooleate, 10% dodecyl dimethyl phosphine oxide and about 0.5% tetracycline hydrochloride.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
23 words
A process for enhancing the penetration of pharmacologically active agents into and through animal tissue comprising topically applying the composition of claim 1.
