Abstract
Abstract Organo-lithium compounds of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R is an alkyl group of up to 5 carbon atoms, R' is either hydrogen or an alkyl group of up to 5 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 2 to 10. These bifunctional organo-lithium compounds are prepared without the use of any polar or complexing agent and are useful as polymerization initiators for the production of block copolymers.

A process for the preparation of a compound of claim 1 which comprises reacting a compound of the formula: ##STR6##wherein n and R' are as set forth in claim 1 with an alkyl-lithium compound in a non-polar solvent medium, the excess of the alkyllithium being removed from the reaction medium by filtration and wherein the reaction product is washed at least once with the solvent of the reaction medium.
