Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
99 words
A method of printing webs, particularly textile webs, comprising the steps of providing a plurality of individual dot-printing elements each having a free end; supporting a web to be printed in a path in which a surface of the web faces the free ends of the printing elements; supplying printing medium to the printing elements for entrainment by the same; moving respective ones of the printing elements until the free ends thereof contact at least the surface of the web to yield up the entrained printing medium to the web; and retracting the printing elements subsequently to such contact.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
99 words
A method of printing webs, particularly textile webs, comprising the steps of providing a plurality of individual dot-printing elements each having a free end; supporting a web to be printed in a path in which a surface of the web faces the free ends of the printing elements; supplying printing medium to the printing elements for entrainment by the same; moving respective ones of the printing elements until the free ends thereof contact at least the surface of the web to yield up the entrained printing medium to the web; and retracting the printing elements subsequently to such contact.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the step of moving comprising advancing the respective printing elements towards the web individually.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
32 words
A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the step of moving comprises advancing the printing elements in groups composed of respective printing elements all of which advance towards the web simultaneously.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
52 words
A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the printing elements each have a recess which communicates with the ambient space and with the free end, and the step of supplying comprises surrounding the printing elements with a bath of printing medium so that some of the printing medium enters the recess.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
A method as defined in claim 1; further comprising the step of moving the web at least intermittently in said path.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
32 words
A method as defined in claim 1; and further comprising advancing the elements in a plane parallel to said path and relative to said web between successive ones of the moving steps.
