Abstract

Abstract A stable prostaglandin containing medical preparation in the form of substantially dry particles and intended for intravaginal and/or intracervical application. The preparation comprises prostaglandin absorbed and/or adsorbed in a crosslinked hydroxyl group containing polymer which is insoluble in water but has capability of swelling in water containing liquids to form a gel.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 56 words
A stable medical preparation containing prostaglandin in the form of substantially dry particles and intended for intravaginal or intracervical application, said preparation comprising a crosslinked hydroxyl group containing polymer which is insoluble in water but has the capability of swelling in liquid containing water to form a gel, said polymer containing an effective amount of prostaglandin.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
A stable medical preparation containing prostaglandin in the form of substantially dry particles and intended for intravaginal or intracervical application, said preparation comprising a crosslinked hydroxyl group containing polymer which is insoluble in water but has the capability of swelling in liquid containing water to form a gel, said polymer containing an effective amount of prostaglandin.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
A preparation according to claim 1, wherein the polymer consists of a crosslinked polymer carbohydrate or a crosslinked polymerized carbohydrate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
A preparation according to claim 1, wherein the crosslinking of the polymer has been brought about by reaction with epichlorohydrin.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A preparation according to claim 1, wherein the dry particles have such a swelling capability that 1 gram of these particles forms a gel with a volume of 1.5-100 ml at a complete swelling in water.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 36 words
A preparation according to claim 4, wherein the dry particles have such a swelling capability that 1 gram of these particles forms a gel with a volume of 2-50 ml at a complete swelling in water.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
A preparation according to claim 1, which comprises prostaglandin from group E or F or derivatives thereof.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
A preparation according to claim 6, which comprises at least one of the compounds prostaglandin E 2 or prostaglandin F 2 α.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
A preparation according to claim 2, wherein the crosslinked carbohydrate polymer and the crosslinked polymerized carbohydrate are selected from the group consisting of crosslinked starch, dextran, inulin, cellulose, dextrin, saccharose, maltose, sorbitol polymer or an operable derivative thereof.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 52 words
A method of expediting the ripening of the cervix uteri, which comprises administering intracervically or intravaginally to a patient an effective amount of a crosslinked hydroxyl group containing polymer which is insoluble in water but swells in liquid containing water to form a gel, said polymer containing an effective amount of prostaglandin.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 52 words
A method of expediting the ripening of the cervix uteri, which comprises administering intracervically or intravaginally to a patient an effective amount of a crosslinked hydroxyl group containing polymer which is insoluble in water but swells in liquid containing water to form a gel, said polymer containing an effective amount of prostaglandin.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method of claim 9, wherein the polymer is administered as (1) dry particles, (2) in a viscous suspension, (3) in an ointment or (4) in a suppository.
