Abstract

Abstract An optical fiber waveguide is rendered pressure insensitive by concentrically surrounding it with a substrate of high bulk modulus material having a wall of selected thickness whereby acoustic pressures (e.g. hydrostatic) on the waveguide induce phase change cancellations such that the algebraic sum of epsilon zP+ epsilon rP+ epsilon zl=0.

Claim 11
Dependent Claim 20 words
The invention according to claim 8 wherein the molar ratios are 12-88 for the core and 10-90 for the cladding.
