Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 33
Claim 1
Independent Claim 69 words
A method for preparing a stable, consistent serum having clear optical qualities and improved filterability without significant loss of macromolecular lipid components which comprises the steps of insolubilizing a component or components of said serum by reducing the pH of said serum by an acid addition treatment, separating said insolubilized component or components from the serum and stabilizing the separated serum by raising the pH of said separated serum.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 69 words
A method for preparing a stable, consistent serum having clear optical qualities and improved filterability without significant loss of macromolecular lipid components which comprises the steps of insolubilizing a component or components of said serum by reducing the pH of said serum by an acid addition treatment, separating said insolubilized component or components from the serum and stabilizing the separated serum by raising the pH of said separated serum.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The method of claim 1 for preparing a consistent bovine serum wherein the serum is selected from bovine serum or plasma.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said pH reduction results in a serum pH below about 5.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
The method of claim 3 wherein said pH is from pH 4.4 to pH 4.6.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said pH reduction step is effected by the addition of an acid selected from organic and inorganic acids.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 11 words
The method of claim 5 wherein said acid is hydrochloric acid.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 11 words
The method of claim 5 wherein said acid is acetic acid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said separation step is effected by filtration through filter media.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method of claim 8 wherein a filter aid such as diatomaceous earth is employed with said filter media.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said separation step is effected by centrifugation.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said stabilizing step is effected by raising the pH of the separated serum to a pH in the range of about 7-8.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method of claim 11 wherein said pH raising step results in a serum pH of about 7.5.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 24 words
The method of claim 11 wherein said pH raising step is effected by the addition of a base selected from organic and inorganic bases.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 11 words
The method of claim 13 wherein said base is sodium hydroxide.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 10 words
The method of claim 13 wherein said base is trihydroxyaminomethane.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 15 words
The method of claim 1 wherein said serum is selected from human serum or plasma.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the resulting serum is frozen or lyophilized.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 1.
Claim 20
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 17.
Claim 21
Independent Claim 51 words
A method for preparing a serum intermediate without significant loss of macromolecular lipid components which comprises the steps of insolubilizing a component or components of said seruum by rendering the pH of said serum more acidic by an acid addition treatment, and separating said insolubilized component or components from said serum.
Claim 22
Independent Claim 51 words
A method for preparing a serum intermediate without significant loss of macromolecular lipid components which comprises the steps of insolubilizing a component or components of said seruum by rendering the pH of said serum more acidic by an acid addition treatment, and separating said insolubilized component or components from said serum.
Claim 23
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method of claim 20 wherein the resulting serum is frozen or lyophilized.
Claim 24
Dependent Claim 12 words
The method of claim 20 wherein the resulting separated serum is stabilized.
Claim 25
Dependent Claim 11 words
The method of claim 22 wherein said stabilized serum is lyophilized.
Claim 26
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 20.
Claim 27
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 21.
Claim 28
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 22.
Claim 29
Dependent Claim 9 words
The product obtained by the method of claim 23.
Claim 30
Dependent Claim 32 words
A method for preparing a serum formulation for control and/or calibration application which comprises combining the serum processed according to claim 1 and an analyte or analytes conventionally incorporated in such formulations.
Claim 31
Dependent Claim 37 words
A method for preparing a stable, rehydratable serum formulation for control and/or calibration application which comprises lyophilizing a composite containing the serum processed according to claim 1 and an analyte or analytes conventionally incorporated in such formulations.
