Abstract

Abstract Alcohols and particularly fatty alcohols are manufactured by hydrogenolysis of carboxylic esters in the presence of a catalyst comprising a carrier, rhodium and at least one second element selected from the group consisting of tin, germanium and lead. The rhodium content is from 0.1 to 5% b.w. and the content of the second element is from 0.1 to 10% b.w.
