Abstract The invention relates to new benzisoselenazolones of the general formula I ##STR1## and a process for the treatment of humans suffering from inflammatory diseases of the rheumatic type.

Benzisoselenazolones of the formula I ##STR4## wherein R 1 and R 2 which can be the same or different from each other, are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 -alkyl, C 1 -C 4 -alkoxy, hydroxyl, trifluoromethyl, nitro, di-(C 1 -C 4 -alkyl)-amino and R 1 and R 2 together, methylenedioxy, and R 3 is a member selected from the group consisting of the heterocyclic group pyridyl, and such heterocyclic group substituted once or twice, identically or differently, by halogen, C 1 -C 2 -alkyl, C 1 -C 4 -alkoxy, hydroxyl, nitro, and carboxyl.
