Abstract

Abstract A method of causing an observer to get an three-dimensional impression of a scene from a two-dimensional representation thereof is disclosed. The observers movements, in particular the movements of his head and/or eyes are monitored and means are provided by which, depending on these movements, two-dimensional representations uniquely associated with each position of the head and/or eyes are displayed on a screen. According to the invention, the display means represent the relative parallactic displacements between all the objects in the scene relative to a predetermined fixation point in the scene.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 109 words
A method of causing an observer to get a three-dimensional impression of a three-dimensional scene from a two-dimensional representation of that scene, including the steps of monitoring the observer's movements and, depending on these movements, displaying on a screen two-dimensional representations uniquely associated with each body position of the observer, further including the steps of selecting and displaying one from a plurality of two-dimensional images of the entire scene, as a function of the observer's movements relative to one predetermined and coinciding fixation point in the scene, thereby displaying the relative parallactic displacement between all the objects in the scene relative to the coinciding fixation point in the scene.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, further including the step of monitoring the movements of the observer's head.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 48 words
A method as claimed in claim 2, further including the steps of monitoring movement of at least one eye of the observer and displaying two-dimensional representations uniquely associated with both the position of the head and the position of as said at least one eye of the observer.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 43 words
A method as in claims 1, 2, or 3, further including the step of utilizing a one image pick-up apparatus that is moved around the coinciding fixation point to pick-up images of the scene in real time in synchronization with the observer's movements.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 20 words
A method as claimed in claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the images of the scene are prerecorded.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
A method as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that the images are prerecorded in digital form.
