Abstract

Abstract Medical devices for the sutureless repair of lacerated, severed, or grafted nerves comprising longitudinally-openable, porous, rough-surfaced tubes of a body-absorbable polymer are disclosed. The tubular devices of the invention are prepared by sintering or otherwise bonding together granules or fibers, or melt processing suitable polymers in the form of the desired device.

Claim 4
Dependent Claim 50 words
The process according to claim 1 further comprising the step of impregnating said first body-absorbable polymer with a second body-absorbable polymer prior to placing said web in said mold cavity, said second body-absorbable polymer being selected from a lower-melting polymer in powdered form and lower-melting polymer dissolved in a solvent.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein said fibers are packed into said mold cavity and sintered to bond said fibers together.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein said polymer is melt processed in the presence of leachable filler and said filler is subsequently leached out.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein said polymer fibers are bonded together by solvent.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words

Claim 9
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein said bonding is effected by sintering.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 35 words
The process according to claim 1 wherein said bonding is effected by melting a lower melting second body absorbable polymer that has been impregnated into said polymer fibers prior to placing in said mold cavity.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 20 words
The process according to claim 3 further comprising dissolving said second body-absorbable polymer in an effective amount of a solvent.
