Abstract

Abstract Disclosed is a process for the polymerization of norbornene derivatives which comprises contacting the monomer(s) with a catalytic system comprising the following two components: (1) a tungsten compound which is the product of combining a tungsten halide with a para-trihalomethylphenol which can be described by the formula ##STR1## in which each R is selected from alkyl and halide, and (2) a compound of the general formula: ##STR2## in which at least two of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are selected from unsubstituted and substituted C 1-20 hydrocarbyl.
