Abstract

Abstract Dual color imaging process and system providing formation of an image having adjacent first and second areas respectively containing first and second types of pigmented particles undesirably separated by third areas relatively free of particles of the first and second types and causing the image to flow into the third areas, thereby at least partially eliminating the third areas.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 171 words
Imaging apparatus comprising: a) an image forming surface arranged for movement in a first direction; b) means for forming an electrostatic latent image on the image forming surface, said latent image having image and non-image areas at different electrical potentials; c) means for developing said electrostatic latent image using a liquid developer comprising toner particles wherein toner particles are desirably deposited on the image areas and are undesirably deposited on said non image areas; d) means for removing toner particles from said non-image areas and excess liquid from both said image and non-image areas after development of the image, said means for removing comprising: e) a second surface spaced from the image forming surface and moving in a direction opposite to said first direction; f) means for supplying a cleaning liquid to at least a portion of the space between said image forming surface and said second surface; and g) means for transferring said image to a substrate after removal of excess liquid and of toner particles from the non-image areas.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 171 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said moving image forming surface is the surface of a drum rotating about an axis.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said second surface is the surface of a rotating cylinder having an axis of rotation perpendicular to said first direction.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 40 words
Apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said second surface is the surface of a rotating cylinder having an axis parallel to the axis of said drum and wherein said rotating cylinder and said rotating drum rotate in the same sense.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 34 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said toner particles are electrically charged with a given polarity and wherein said rotating cylinder is charged to a voltage having a polarity opposite to said given polarity.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
Apparatus according to claim 4 wherein said means for supplying comprises: a) a liquid retaining housing associated with said rotating cylinder; and b) means for circulating said cleaning liquid within said housing.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus according to claim 6 wherein said means for supplying also includes means for removing pigmented particles from said cleaning liquid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 134 words
Imaging apparatus comprising: a) a image forming surface arranged for movement in a first direction; b) means for forming an electrostatic latent image on the image forming surface, said latent image having image and non-image areas at different electrical potentials; c) means for developing said electrostatic latent image using a liquid developer comprising charged toner particles of a given polarity; d) a roller, downstream of said means for developing, having a surface a portion of which is closely spaced from said image forming surface, said roller being charged to a voltage having a polarity opposite that of said charged toner particles and wherein said roller rotates such that said portion has a surface velocity having a direction opposite to said first direction; and e) means for supplying a cleaning liquid to said rotating roller.
