Abstract

Abstract An integrated head/flexure/conductor structure in a system for the reading and writing of information with respect to a relatively moving, contacted medium, such as a disk or drum, and a method for manufacturing the same. The proposed structure takes the form of a micro-dimension, elongate, dielectric flexure body, and embedded within such body both magnetic read/write pole structure, and electrical coil and conductor structure operatively associated with the pole structure. The flexure body and the embedded constituents are formed on an atom-by-atom basis utilizing one or more conventional material-deposition processes.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 69 words
A magnetic recording system comprising an integrated, unitary read/write head/flexure/conductor structure including an elongate dielectric flexure body having embedded therewithin a magnetic read/write head including pole means, and electrical coil and conductor means operatively associated with said pole means, with said structure having a mass less than about 1.5-milligrams, and a magnetic recording medium moveable relative to said read/write head adjacent and in continuous sliding contact with said structure.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 69 words
A magnetic recording system comprising an integrated, unitary read/write head/flexure/conductor structure including an elongate dielectric flexure body having embedded therewithin a magnetic read/write head including pole means, and electrical coil and conductor means operatively associated with said pole means, with said structure having a mass less than about 1.5-milligrams, and a magnetic recording medium moveable relative to said read/write head adjacent and in continuous sliding contact with said structure.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
The system of claim 1, wherein said medium takes the form of a rigid recording medium.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
The system of claim 1 or 2, wherein said medium takes the form of a drum.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
The system of claim 1 or 2, wherein said medium takes the form of a disk.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 27 words
The system of claims 1 or 2, wherein said medium includes a recording surface, and an easy axis of magnetization which is substantially normal to said surface.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 27 words
The system of claim 1 or 2, wherein said medium includes a recording surface, and an easy axis of magnetization which is substantially parallel to said surface.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 25 words
The system of claims 1 or 2, wherein the area of contact between said structure and said medium is less than about 0.4-millimeters 2 .
