Abstract

Abstract This invention relates to a remote signature system in which a signatory located at a remote location from the original document can receive a virtual image of the document to be signed and, using an electronic pen or the like, sign the virtual document. Information regarding the signature is then transmitted to the location where the actual document exists and is imprinted upon the document using a plotter or printer incorporated in or associated with the scanner which transmitted the original image. A security enclosure may be used around the scanner/plotter/printer to eliminate the possibility of tampering with the document once the document has been loaded into the system. In order to prevent unauthorized access or reuse of the signature, or the document, information regarding the signature and the document is encrypted prior to transmission or storage in memory.
