Abstract

Abstract An event management system for handling alerts and events in a computer system is disclosed. A server computer coupled to a network contains the event management software of the present invention. The event management software receives alerts sent by other computers on the network. Using a previously configured alert map with mapper and scheduler, the event management software dispatches service providers in response to the alerts received across the network or in response to the expiration of a timed event. An API is provided within each computer or device in which alerts can be generated. Using the standard interface definition, any of a wide variety of different alert types generated within the networked computers can be triggered and channeled through the network to the server where corresponding service providers are activated.
