Abstract
Abstract An ink jet recording method which can produce a good image on both plain papers and specialty recording media for ink jet recording, and an ink jet recording apparatus for the ink jet recording method are disclosed. The ink jet recording method comprises: providing a black ink composition comprising a pigment as a colorant and a black ink composition comprising a dye as a colorant; and, when the recording medium comprises a gloss layer and/or an ink-receptive layer, printing only the black ink composition comprising a dye as the colorant on the recording medium, and, when the recording medium is plain paper, both the black ink composition comprising a pigment as the colorant and the black ink composition comprising a dye as the colorant are printed. According to this recording method, in the case of printing on plain paper, the density of black can be enhanced, while in the case of printing on a specialty paper for ink jet recording, an image having high chroma and good reproduction range can be produced.

An ink jet recording method comprising (a) providing a first black ink composition comprising a pigment as a colorant; (b) providing a second black ink composition comprising a dye as a colorant; (c) providing a recording medium that either (i) is plain paper or (ii) comprises a gloss layer, an ink receptive layer or both; and (d) forming print on the recording medium with either the first black ink composition or the second black ink composition or both, wherein (i) when the recording medium comprises the gloss layer, the ink-receptive layer or both, only the second black ink composition comprising the dye as the colorant is printed on the recording medium and (ii) when the recording medium is plain paper, both the first black ink composition comprising the pigment as the colorant and the second black ink composition comprising the dye as the colorant arc printed on the recording medium.
