Abstract

Abstract in a communications network having a plurality of stations interconnected by a common transmission link, there is transmitted from a given source station a message including a destination address code, a source address code and an initializing code, to the transmission link. The transmitted message is received at a destination station specified by the received destination address code to initialize the destination station. The received source identification code is stored in a memory and retrieved when the initialization is completed. A return message including the retrieved source address code, the destination address code and an end-of-initialization code is transmitted to the transmission link to allow the source station to confirm that the destination station has been initialized.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 124 words
A method of initializing communications stations interconnected by a common transmission link, comprising: transmitting a message including a destination code, a source code and an initializing code from a given source station to said transmission link; receiving the transmitted message at a destination station specified by the received destination code to initialize the specified station in response to said initializing code; storing the received source code; retrieving the stored code upon completion of the initialization; generating a return message including the retrieved source code, a source code identical to said destination code and an end-of-initialization code; and transmitting said return message from said destination station to said transmission link to allow said given source station to confirm that said destination station has been initialized.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 153 words
A communications network having a plurality of communications stations each having an identification code and interconnected by a common transmission link, wherein each of said stations comprises: memory means; and data processing means which is programmed to perform the steps of: a) transmitting a message including a destination code identifying a destination station in the network, a source code identifying the own station and an initializing code to said common link; b) receiving the message and storing the received source code into said memory means; c) checking said destination code against the identification code of the own station to detect a match therebetween; d) if said match is detected, initializing the own station; e) retrieving the stored source code from said memory means; f) generating a return message including the retrieved source code, the identification-code of the own station and an end-of-initialization code; and g) transmitting the return message to said common link.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 183 words
A communications network having a plurality of communications stations each having an identification code and interconnected by a common transmission link, wherein each of said stations comprises: a transmit memory; a receive memory; and data processing means which is programmed to perform the steps of: a) forming a message by a destination code identifying a destination station in the network, a source code identifying the own station and an initializing code in said transmit memory; b) transmitting the message formed in said transmit memory to said transmission link; c) receiving the transmitted message and storing the received destination code and source code into said receive memory; d) checking said destination code against the identification code of the own station to detect a match therebetween; e) if said match is detected, initializing the own station; f) transferring the source code from said receive memory to said transmit memory; g) storing the identification code of the own station and an end-of-initialization code into said transmit memory to form a return message with said source code; and h) transmitting the return message to said common link.
