Abstract

Abstract Binder mixture for preparing water-free high-solids metallic effect basecoating composition based on a reaction product of at least one saturated or olefinically unsaturated polyester and/or chain-growth polymer which contains pendant OH groups to an OH number of 30-180, a polycarboxylic anhydride mixture which contains trimellitic acid units, at least one epoxidised oil and organic bases, metal powders, solvents, optional pigments and/or dyes and also optionally further customary additives, with the proviso that the level of cellulose acetobutyrate, which in the present case serves only as flow control agent, is not more than 3 %, based on the solids content, and use thereof together with a topcoating composition for producing a two-layer metallic effect coating. The metallic effect basecoating composition combines a hitherto unattainable solids content of up to 50 % by weight with a very good metallic effect, better reproducibility and very good physical and mechanical properties.
