Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 164 words
A fuel oil additive effective in improving the flowability and resistance to plugging of middle distillate fuel oils boiling within the range of 120 - 500°C, the additive comprising a single ethylenic copolymer said copolymer being derived from: a) ethylene, and b) at least one monomer selected from vinyl esters of saturated carboxylic acids, ethylenically unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acids and esters thereof which are represented by the general formula: wherein R' represents hydrogen or a methyl group R 2 represents the group -OCOR 4 or -COOR 4 in which R 4 represents hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and R 3 represents hydrogen or the group -COOR 4 in which R is as defined above, the copolymer having a number average molecular weight of less than 1 000 and a content of the (b) component of 1 to 25 mols %, and containing 2 to 10 terminal methyl branches derived from the ethylene component per 100 methylene groups.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 164 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The fuel oil additive as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the copolymer has a (b) component content of 3 to 20 mol %.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
The fuel oil additive as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the copolymer has a (b) component content of 7 to 18 mol %.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A flowable fuel oil comprising a fuel oil and 10 to 2 000 ppm by weight, based on the weight of the fuel oil, of an ethylenic copolymer as claimed in any preceding claim.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
A fuel oil as claimed in Claim 4, wherein the proportion of the copolymer is 100 to 1 000 ppm.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 47 words
A fuel oil as claimed in Claim 4 or 5 and containing a middle distillate fuel oil having a boiling range of 120 to 500°C and the difference between the 20 % and 90 % distillation temperatures of said oil being as narrow as less than 100°C.
