Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 56 words
An element for use in a particle counter which element having an orifice through which liquid can be drawn when it is placed in a liquid characterised in that there is a moveable insert positioned so as to be inserted into the orifices so as to reduce the cross-sectional area through which the liquid can pass.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
An element for use in a particle counter which element having an orifice through which liquid can be drawn when it is placed in a liquid characterised in that there is a moveable insert positioned so as to be inserted into the orifices so as to reduce the cross-sectional area through which the liquid can pass.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
An element as claimed in claim 1 characterised in that there are means to pass an electric current across the orifice and means for measuring the electric current passing.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 42 words
An element as claimed in claim 2 characterised in that the means for inserting the insert into the orifice is operated electrically and there are means responsive to the current flowing across the orifice to position the insert in a pre-determined position.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 61 words
An element as claimed in any one of claims 1-3 characterised in that the means responsive to the current flowing across the orifice comprises an electrically driven means for automatically moving the insert into the orifice and there is a micro-processor adapted to control the said electrical means, which micro-processor is able to respond to the electrical impedance across the orifice.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 23 words
An element as claimed in any one of claims 1-4 characterised in that the orifice and insert are both of substantially circular cross-section.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
An element as claimed in any one of claims 1-5 characterised in that the insert is inserted into the orifice against the direction of flow of liquid through the orifice.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
An element as claimed in any one of claims 1-6 characterised in that the insert varies in diameter continuously over at least part of its length.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 29 words
An element as claimed in any one of claims 1-6 characterised in that the diameter of the insert varies in stepped fashion along at least part of its length.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 54 words
A method of analysing particles in liquid suspension in which the liquid is passed through an orifice across which an electric current flows and the impedance across the orifice is measured, characterised in that an insert is inserted in the orifice if the impedance of insertion is controlled to give a predetermined impedance measurement.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 54 words
A method of analysing particles in liquid suspension in which the liquid is passed through an orifice across which an electric current flows and the impedance across the orifice is measured, characterised in that an insert is inserted in the orifice if the impedance of insertion is controlled to give a predetermined impedance measurement.
