Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 213 words
A traction control system for a motor vehicle of the type comprising a set of brakes (22L, 22R, 24L, 24R) for respective wheels (8L, 8R, 12L, 12R), brake control means (20) for controlling the braking forces exerted by the brakes on the respective wheels, slip detector means (25L, 25R, 26L, 26R, 27, 31) for detecting the slip rates of the vehicle wheels, slip control means (33) connected between the slip detector means and the brake control means for causing the latter to controllably actuate the brakes so as to maintain the slip rates of the wheels less than a prescribed limit, and throttle control means (14, 35, 40) for controllably varying engine power in response to accelerator displacement, characterized in that wheel liftoff detector means (13, 27, 28L, 28R, 29L, 29R, 34) are provided for detecting, when the vehicle is taking a curve, the lifting of the inside wheels of the vehicle off the road surface, that the wheel liftoff detector means are connected to the slip control means (33) for disabling the same upon detection of inside wheel liftoff, and that the wheel liftoff detector means are also connected to the throttle control means (14, 35, 40) for decreasing the engine power to a predetermined degree upon detection of inside wheel liftoff.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 80 words
A traction control system as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the wheel liftoff detector means comprises a set of wheel stroke sensors (28L, 28R, 29L, 29R) provided one on each vehicle wheel (8L, 8R, 12L, 12R), a steering angle sensor (13), a vehicle speed sensor (27), and a wheel liftoff detector circuit (34) for detecting inside wheel liftoff in response to signals supplied from the wheel stroke sensors and the steering angle sensor and the vehicle velocity sensor.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 127 words
A traction control system as claimed in claim 2, wherein the throttle control means comprises an accelerator sensor (14), a throttle control circuit (35) connected to the accelerator sensor for producing a throttle opening signal in accordance with the degree of accelerator displacement sensed by the accelerator sensor, and a throttle motor (40) for controlling throttle opening in response to the throttle opening signal, characterized in that the wheel liftoff detector means further comprises a throttle control correction means (36) connected between the throttle control circuit and the throttle motor, the throttle control correction means being responsive to a signal from the wheel liftoff detector circuit for causing the throttle motor to decrease throttle opening upon detection of inside wheel liftoff by the wheel liftoff detector circuit.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 89 words
A traction control system as claimed in claim 2, wherein the slip control means comprise a slip control circuit (33) for comparing the actual slip rates of the wheels with a permissible slip rate and for actuating the brake control means (20) so as to maintain the actual slip rates of the vehicle wheels at not more than the permissible slip rate, characterized in that the wheel liftoff detector circuit (34) is connected to the slip control circuit (33) for disabling the same upon detection of inside wheel liftoff.
