Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 184 words
An interactive patient assistance device comprising a housing (102) which carries:- patient command means (36) for receiving a prescribed command made by the patient and providing a signal indicative of that command; control means (46) for receiving the command signal; a testing device (106,152) for providing an output indicative of a health parameter of the patient; and means (148) attached to the testing device and coupled to the control means for reading the output of the testing device; characterised by storage means (124a,124b) carried by the housing for storing the testing device (106,152) within the housing; delivery means (160,164) carried by the housing and associated with the storage means for selectively making the testing device available for use in response to a second signal; memory means (16) coupled to the control means for storing a prescribed schedule for delivering the testing device, the control means being operable to issue said second signal to the delivery means to make the testing device available for use in response either to receipt of said patient command signal, or to said prescribed schedule stored in the memory means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 38 words
A device according to claim 1 wherein the memory means (16) stores additional prescribed schedules, and the patient command means (36) is operative for altering a selected one of the prescribed schedules in response to a prescribed command.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
A device according to claim 1 and wherein the patient command means includes speech recognition means (36) for receiving and interpreting prescribed verbal commands.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 48 words
A device according to claim 3 and wherein the storage means includes a drawer (124a, 124b) movable between a closed position within the housing (102) and an opened position outside the housing, and wherein the delivery means (160,164) moves the drawer from its closed to its opened position.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 61 words
A device according to claim 4 and wherein the delivery means (160,164) includes means for biasing the drawer (124a,124b) toward its opened position and releasable locking means (160) for retaining the drawer in its closed position against the force of the biasing means, and wherein the control means (46) releases the locking means to make the product (106,152) available for use.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
A device according to claim 3 further including means (36) for synthesizing audible responses to said interpreted prescribed verbal commands.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
A device according to claim 6 wherein the means (36) for synthesizing audible responses is operable in response to a prescribed schedule to synthesize an audible reminder message.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 36 words
A device according to any one of claims 3 to 7 further including communication means (40,42,44) for attempting to complete an audio telecommunications link with a remote location in response to said interpreted prescribed verbal commands.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 99 words
A device according to claim 1, wherein the housing (102) carries medication storage means (124d) for storing doses of a medication within the housing; medication dispensing means (124c) for receiving a dose of the medication from the medication storage means (124d) and associated with medication delivery means (160,164) for selectively dispensing a dose of the medicament to the patient, the memory means (16) being further provided for storing a prescribed medication schedule for dispensing the medication and the control means being operable to issue a signal to the medication delivery means (160,164) in response to the prescribed medication schedule.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 68 words
A device according to claim 9, wherein the medication storage means (124d) stores the doses away from access by the patient and further comprising transfer means (180,184) for selectively transferring a dose of the medication from the medication storage means (124d) to the medication dispensing means (124c) in response either to the prescribed medication schedule stored in the memory means (16), or to said interpreted prescribed verbal commands.
