Oxidation-cross-linkable and water-soluble binder, process for its manufacture and use of same

Abstract Translated from German Oxidativ vernetzbare, wasserverdünnbare Bindemittel, bestehend im wesentlichen aus einem modifizierten Co­polymerisat des Molekulargewichtsbereichs 6000 bis 160000 von olefinisch ungesättigten Verbindungen, welches einen, die Wasserverdünnbarkeit bewirkenden, Gehalt an eingebauten, zu 10 bis 100 % neutralisierten Carboxylgruppen von 60 bis 250 Milliäquivalenten pro 100 g Feststoff und einen Gehalt an chemisch eingebauten Struktureinheiten der Formel -O-R von 15 bis 50 Gew.-% aufweisen (R = ungesättigter ali­phatischer Kohlenwasserstoffrest eines über 166 liegen­den Molekulargewichts), ein Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser Bindemittel durch Copolymerisation olefinisch ungesättigter Monomerer unter Mitverwendung von olefi­nisch ungesättigten Dicarbonsäureanhydriden und an­schließendes Umsetzung der Copolymerisate mit Alkoholen der Formel R-OH und zumindest teilweise Neutralisation der vorliegenden Carboxylgruppen, sowie die Verwendung der Bindemittel in wasserverdünnbaren Lacken und Be­schichtungsmitteln. Oxidatively crosslinkable, water-dilutable binders, consisting essentially of a modified copolymer of the molecular weight range 6000 to 160000 of olefinically unsaturated compounds, which has a water-dilutability-causing content of built-in carboxyl groups of 10 to 100% neutralized of 60 to 250 milliequivalents per 100 g of solid and a content of chemically incorporated structural units of the formula -OR from 15 to 50% by weight (R = unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of a molecular weight above 166), a process for the preparation of these binders by copolymerization of olefinically unsaturated monomers with the use of olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydrides and subsequent reaction of the copolymers with alcohols of the formula R - OH and at least partial neutralization of the carboxyl groups present, as well as the use of the binders in water-dilutable lacquers and coating compositions.
