Abstract
Abstract A method is provided for allocating and de-allocating transmission resources in a local multipoint distribution services system. In the method, one of an off-hook after idle signal (34) and an incoming call request signal is detected. A frequency and a time slot for a call are assigned (35) at a base system in response to the detection of the off-hook after idle signal or the incoming call request signal. A customer premises equipment unit is tuned to the assigned frequency in order to deliver the call.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 19
Claim 1
Independent Claim
80 words
A method for allocating and de-allocating
transmission resources in a local multipoint distribution
services system, the method comprising the steps of: detecting an off-hook after idle signal or an
incoming call request signal; assigning a frequency and a time slot for a call at
a base system in response to detection of the off-hook
after idle signal or the incoming call request signal;
and tuning a customer premises equipment unit to the
assigned frequency in order to deliver the call.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
19 words
The method of Claim 1, further comprising; detecting a disconnect signal; and de-assigning the frequency and the time slot.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
17 words
The method of Claim 2, further comprising; de-tuning the customer premises equipment unit from
the assigned frequency.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method of Claim 1, further comprising; storing information specifying the assigned
frequency and time slot at a remote terminal.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
39 words
The method of Claim 1 or Claim 4, further
comprising: generating a connect/request message at the customer
premises equipment unit in response to detection of an
off-hook after idle signal; and transmitting the connect/request message to the base
system.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
38 words
The method of Claim 1,Claim 4 or Claim 5, further
comprising: generating an alert message at a remote terminal in
response to detection of an incoming call request signal;
and transmitting the alert message to the base system.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of any of Claim 1, or Claims 4 to 6
further comprising the step of connecting to a DS-1.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
75 words
A method for allocating and de-allocating
transmission resources in a local multipoint distribution
services system, the method comprising the steps of: detecting an off-hook after idle signal or an
incoming call request signal; determining at a base system a frequency and a time
slot available for a call; assigning a frequency and a time slot to the call;
and tuning a customer premises equipment unit to the
assigned frequency in order to deliver the call.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
27 words
The method of Claim 8, further comprising; detecting a disconnect signal; and de-assigning the frequency and the time slot in
response to detection of a disconnect signal.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
17 words
The method of Claim 9, further comprising; de-tuning the customer premises equipment unit from
the assigned frequency.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method of Claim 8, further comprising; storing information specifying the assigned
frequency and time slot at a remote terminal.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
33 words
The method of Claim 11, further comprising; detecting a disconnect signal; and purging from the remote terminal the stored
information specifying the assigned frequency and time
slot in response to the disconnect signal.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
93 words
A local multipoint distribution services system
comprising: a remote terminal operable to detect an incoming
call request signal; a customer premises equipment unit operable to
detect an off-hook after idle signal, the customer
premises equipment unit further operable to tune to an
assigned frequency for a call; and a base system coupled to the remote terminal and the
customer premises equipment unit, the base system
operable to assign the frequency and a time slot for the
call in response to detection of an incoming call request
signal or an off-hook after idle signal.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
28 words
The system of Claim 13, wherein the remote terminal
is further operable to generate an alert message in
response to the detection of an incoming call request
signal.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
33 words
The system of Claim 13 or Claim 14, wherein the
customer premises equipment unit is further operable to
generate a connect/request message in response to the
detection of an off-hook after idle signal.
Claim 16
Independent Claim
46 words
The system of any of Claims 13 to 15, wherein the
remote terminal is further operable to detect a
disconnect signal; and the base system is further operable to de-assign the
assigned frequency and the time slot in response to the
detection of a disconnect signal.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
19 words
The system of Claim 16, wherein the customer
premises equipment is further operable to de-tune from
the assigned frequency.
Claim 18
Independent Claim
29 words
The system of any of Claims 13 to 17, wherein the
remote terminal is further operable to store information
specifying the assigned frequency and time slot for the
call.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim
46 words
The system of Claim 18, wherein the remote terminal
is further operable to detect a disconnect signal, the
remote terminal further operable to purge the stored
information specifying the assigned frequency and time
slot for the call in response to the detection of the
disconnect signal.
