Improved fire guard
Abstract
Abstract 329,058. Fursier, W. E. Feb. 28, 1929. Fireguards.-In a fireguard of the type comprising a displaceable, flexible, openwork metallic screen e, the suspension and operating mechanism is entirely enclosed in a surrounding rectangular frame a, and a marginal bar f on the screen engages in an interior groove or slide in the frame. The form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is portable, and the screen e is suspended from a roller d controlled by a counterbalance g, by a hand winch or the like, or by a spring or springs. The screen may be positively held in lowered position by engagement of the bottom bar f with slots in the frame, or by thumb-screws or the like on the bar f co-operating with a slide at each side of the frame. The guard may be positioned in front of the fire by a hook device engaging a chain or other fastening fitted on the back wall of the fireplace. The frame a may alternatively be built as a fixture in the fireplace. Fig. 6 shows a form in which the screen e is suspended curtainwise by rings i sliding on a rod j and is provided with side bars f<1>; in a modification the rings are replaced by runner wheel attached by links to the screen.
