Abstract

Abstract 666,159. Gas turbines. SIMMERING- GRAZ - PAUKER AKT. - GES. FUR MASCHINEN-, KESSEL-UND WAGGONBAU, and LEDINEGG, M. March 4, 1949 [Nov. 26, 1948], No. 5994/49. Class 110(iii) In a gas turbine in which the rotor blades have bores through which circulates a primary cooling liquid which itself is cooled by a secondary cooling medium, the primary cooling liquid flows upwardly in one or more large bores 9 into a space 16 at the tip of the blade and flows downwardly in a larger number of bores 7 of smaller diameter disposed near the surface of the blade. The vapour produced by the primary cooling liquid flows into the spaces 8 between the rotor discs 3 and from there through pipes 18 having inwardly projecting ends into the hollow space 25 within the rotor where it is condensed by the secondary cooling medium, which may be water, flowing in coils 26. Annular rings 19 are disposed around the rotor discs 3 to form a closed path for the primary cooling liquid. Hoods 6 are secured to the blade roots and extend radially inwards, the hoods standing above the level 15 of the cooling liquid which forms upon rotation of the rotor. Cooling liquid enters the bores 9 through transverse tubes having filter plates which are disposed within the hoods 6. Pressure gauges 41, 45 are provided to give an indication should the level 15 of the primary cooling liquid fall below the point 42. Specification 623,841 is referred to.
