Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To easily obtain a tracking signal by one laser beam, by heating an amorphous magnetic material at a crystallization temperature or above so as to be flat against the recording surface of a recording track, and forming a guide bit at constant intervals. CONSTITUTION:On the upper surface of a glass or plastic disk 3, a GdTbFe compound thin film 2 being in an amorphous state is formed, and also on a recording medium obtained by forming an SiO2 protective film 1 on the upper surface of said film 2, a guide track 4 formed by heating at a temperature exceeding a crystallization temperature by an Ar laser beam, etc. is formed along a magnetic recording track 5. When this recording medium is irradiated by a laser beam 8, a recording bit 7 is detected by rotation of the plane of polarization of its transmission light beam or reflection light beam, and also a guide bit 6 is detected as variation of the quantity of light of the transmission light beam or reflection light beam. In this way, a tracking signal is obtained easily, and recording and reproduction are executed very satisfactorily.
