Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To separate advantageously tocopherols and tocotrienols in a distillate obtained by acid removal process of fats and oils through distillation or their deodorizing process through distillation, by esterifying the distillate with a monohydric alcohol, followed by adsorption treatment. CONSTITUTION:A distillate obtained by acid removal process of fats and oils through distillation and their deodorizing process through distillation is esterified with a monohydric alcohol first, and brought into contact with a common solid adsorbent, so that tocopherols and tocotrienols in the distillate are adsorbed on the adsorbent. The adsorbent is brought into contact with a solvent, the adsorbed components are extracted with the solvent, and the tocopherols and tocotrienols having vitamine E deactivity, useful as antisterility agent for animals, are separated. Since fatty acids in the distillate are esterified by the esterification in this method, they are not adsorbed by the following adsorption treatment, so that the adsorption and separation of the components are carried out without hindrance.
