Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To display a character at a blank part and to prevent picture display from disappearing by displaying the character at an aspect ratio different from that at photography. CONSTITUTION:A TV camera 1 takes a photograph at a specified aspect ratio 1/1. A signal from the camera 1 is converted by an A/D converter 2 into a digital signal to store in a picture memory. Picture data is inputted to line buffers 5 and 6 and the data stored therein are sent to a D/A converter 15 at an aspect ratio (4/3) different from said ratio. The output of the converter 15 is displayed on a picture display device 16 at the specific aspect ratio (1/1) as it is. A character signal from a character generator 14 is sent to the device 16 through the converter 15 to display the character at the blank part of the display screen.
