Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To read efficiently an original of a requested size by moving relatively an image sensor and the original relatively in the sub-scanning direction and the main scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:The image sensor 2 reads the original while being moved in the sub-scanning direction Y. A control section 31 moves an original platen 29 in the main scanning direction X depending on the size of the original to be set and judges as to whether it is required to read again or not. When it is judged that the re-reading is required, the control section 31 applies pulse signals of a required number for forward drive to a stepping motor 14 to move the original platen 49 in the main scanning direction X. Then the control section 31 repeats the said series of reading operations and moves the image sensor to the initial position, moves further the original platen 19 depending on the size of the set original, judges whether it is required to re-reading or not, and the operations above are repeated until no re-reading is required.
