Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To amplify a useful light signal by separating a light signal into two different polarized light beams, amplifying those polarized light beams by Raman effect, and putting the amplified light beams in phase with each other and multiplexing them. CONSTITUTION:A light signal transmitted by a main transmission line 1 is attenuated by being passed through a nonpolarization optical fiber 1, a distributor, etc., but the light signal is separated by a demultiplexer 3 into two mutually different polarized light beams, e.g. a vertical and a horizontal polarized wave. The two separated polarized light beams are then transmitted by single optical fibers 4 and 5 and guided to Raman effect amplifiers 6 and 7, which amplify them by Raman effect. The two different amplifier polarized light beams are adjusted by single polarized wave optical fibers 8 and 9 to the same phase and guided to an optical mixer 10, which multiplexes them. Consequently, the light signal multiplexed by an optical mixer 10 is the light signal which is passed through the nonpolarization optical fiber 1 and amplified, so as optical communication system which employs the Raman effect amplification can uses the nonpolarization optical fiber as item main transmission line.
