Abstract AN APPARATUS FOR USE IN HIGH PRESSURE APPLICATIONS COMPRISING A SOLID BODY HAVING A PARTIALLY ELLIPSOIDAL SHAPE, SAID SOLID BODY BEING OF A MATERIAL HAVING HIGH COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH AND LOW TENSILE STRENGTH AND A MEANS FOR UNIFORMLY SUPPORTING SAID BODY. THE APPARATUS IS ESPECIALLY SUITABLE AS A WINDOW AND A SUPPORT FOR SAID WINDOW WHICH CAN BE MOUNTED IN A REACTION VESSEL FOR VISUAL OBSERVATION OF VERY HIGH PRESSURE CHEMICAL REACTIONS.
