Abstract POROUS COMPOSITE MATERIALS, CONSISTING OF A CONTINUOUS PHASE AND A DISPERSE PHASE IN INTIMATE ASSOCIATION WITH THE CONTINUOUS PHASE MAY BE OBTAINED BY THE APPLICATION OF FREEZE-DRYING TECHNIQUES. THE MATERIALS MAY BE PREPARED EITHER BY FREE-DRYING A FIRST SOLUTION, IMPREGNATING THE DRY MATERIAL WITH A SECOND SOLUTION AND AGAIN FREEZEDRYING, OR BY FREEZE-DRYING A SYSTEM CONSISTING OF TWO SOLUTES DISSOLVED IN DIFFERENT SOLVENTS WHICH MAY BE IMMISIBLE. FREEZE-DRYING OF BOTH AQUEOUS AND NON-AQUEOUS SYSTEMS IS ENVISAGED.
