Abstract

Abstract A container mouth is plugged by an open-ended tubular shell, closable at the top by a hinged cap, whose interior is spanned by a membrane which is weakened along two closed lines defining two separate detachable wall portions. The larger of the two wall portions is rigid with the extremities of a ring-segmental tab which spacedly overlies the membrane within the shell and whose midpoint is integrally joined to the smaller wall portion whereby an upward pull upon the two halves of the tab simultaneously removes both wall portions to form a pouring aperture and an air inlet.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 130 words
A closure for a container having an open mouth, comprising: an open-ended tubular shell centered on a substantially vertical axis and provided at its lower end with a formation engageable with the container mouth; a rupturable membrane spanning the interior of said shell and forming a frangible seal, said membrane being provided along two closed lines with weakened zones defining two spaced-apart wall portions detachable from the remainder of the membrane; and a tab member with a loop-shaped body spacedly overlying said membrane within said shell, said body being connected at the extremities of the loop with one of said wall portions and at the midpoint of the loop with the other of said wall portions for simultaneous detachment thereof upon an upward pull on both halves of said body.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 130 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
A closure as defined in claim 1 wherein said one of said wall portions is substantially larger than said other of said wall portions.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 49 words
A closure as defined in claim 2 wherein said loop is a segment of a ring centered on said axis, said one of said wall portions being substantially sector shaped with an arcuate boundary centered on said axis and with a vertex pointing toward said other of said portions.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
A closure as defined in claim 3 wherein said other of said portions is circular.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
A closure as defined in claim 1, further comprising a hinged cap normally closing the top of said shell and encasing said tab member.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
A closure as defined in claim 5 wherein said cap is provided with a depending skirt fitting into the top of said shell above said membrane.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
A closure as defined in claim 1 wherein said shell and said membrane consist of elastomeric plastic material.
