Abstract

Abstract A semi-automatic switch mechanism particularly for monorail type trolley conveyor tracks which is characterized by extreme simplicity of construction and operation. The switch takes advantage of the operation of a spring-loaded toggle linkage and a pivoted shifter member struck by a trolley for shifting a flexible switching track section into alignment selectively with either of two angularly disposed track sections, such as a main track section and a branch section.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 296 words
A transfer mechanism for a trolley conveyor system comprising a relatively stationary support member and relatively stationary track sections forming parts of the system fixed to the support member in a common plane and on intersecting paths, a movable track section adapted for selective alignment with individual ones of said relatively stationary track sections whereby a trolley may pass freely from one stationary track section to another in the system by passing over the movable track section while the latter is in one stabilized position, plural stop means to arrest the movement of the movable track section in either of two stabilized positions, a pivoted striker element in the path of movement of the trolley approaching the transfer mechanism on any of said stationary track sections, and over-dead-center linkage having a connection with the relatively stationary support member and with the pivoted striker element and being operable upon engagement of the striker element by a moving trolley to move the movable tracK section from one stabilized position to the second stabilized position thereof, said intersecting paths of the relatively stationary track sections being at right angles and said relatively stationary track sections being interrupted at the central area of the transfer mechanism to form a gap, said movable track section comprising a rigid track section turnable to either stabilized position to bridge the gap between pairs of interrupted stationary track sections, and a pivoted member carrying the movable track section and having connection with said linkage and being pivoted to the stationary support member, said pivoted member carrying the movable track section including a plate portion disposed in the plane of said plural stop means and having edge portions engageable with the stop means to arrest turning of the pivoted member at two right angular positions.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 296 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 59 words
A transfer mechanism for a trolley conveyor system as defined by claim 1, wherein said plate portion has a pair of opposite side pivots and said pivots are connected with said linkage, said linkage divided into two parts each having a striker element arranged to be engaged by a trolley moving on one of said right angular intersecting paths.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 34 words
A transfer mechanism for a trolley conveyor system as defined by claim 2, and a single over dead center toggle spring means connected with the plate portion and with the relatively stationary support member.
