Abstract THE ACTIVITY OF COBALT, NICKEL OR IRON OXIDE CATALYSTS IS IMPROVED IF THE CATALYST CONTAINS A PROMOTER, 0.110% ZIRCONIA OR 0.1-5% CERIA, AND THE CATALYST IS PREPARED BY BEING PRECIPITATED FROM A SOLUTION HAVING A PH BELOW 7.35. FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN ACTIVITY ARE OBTAINED IF THE ZIRCONIA OR CERIA PROMOTED CATALYST ALSO CONTAINS 0.08-1% OF SILICA AS A CO-PROMOTER.
