Abstract EVOMONOSIDE ETHERS AND/OR ESTERS OF THE FORMULA 17-(2-(O=)-2,5-DIHYDROFUR-4-YL),3-((3-(R3-O-),4-(R2-O-), 5-(R1-O-),5-(R2-O-),6-CH3-TETRAHYDROPYRAN-2-YL)-O-),14- HO-ANDROSTANE WHEREIN ONE OR TWO OF THE SUBSTITUENTS R1, R2 AND R3 IS LOWER ALKYL OR ALKOXYALKYL OR WHEREIN THE SUBSTITUENTS R2 AND R3 TOGETHER REPRESENT A LOWER ALKYLIDENE RADICAL, AND THE REMAINING SUBSTITUENTS ARE HYDROGEN OR ACYL. THESE EVOMONOSIDE DERIVATIVES ARE HIGHLY EFFECTIVE THERAPEUTIC AGENTS AND ARE SUITABLE FOR ORAL ADMINISTRATION IN THE TREATMENT OF CARDIAC INSUFFICIENCY.
