Abstract

Abstract Molding powder of a polymeric resin having intrinsic acid properties, such as acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene terpolymer, is admixed with a decomposable chemical compound to produce a resulting mixture which is then extruded to form an extrudate. The extrudate is passed through a reduced pressure cooling zone while still in a semi-molten state to remove the gaseous components of the decomposed chemical compound. Upon removing the solidified extrudate from the reduced pressure cooling zone a porous article is produced immediately and without further processing.
