Abstract WATER-SOLUBLE CATIONIC THERMOSETTING POLYAMIDEPOLYAMINE-EPICHLOROHYDRIN RESINS CONTAINING PHENYLENE LINKAGES ARE PREPARED BY REACTING 1/3 TO 3/4 MOL OF A NONORTHOPHTHALIC ACID WITH 1 MOL OF A WATER-SOLUBLE POLYALKYLENEPOLYAMINE, REACTING THE RESULTING MONOMERIC PHTHALAMIDE WITH 2/3 TO 1/4 MOL OF A C2-C10 SATURATED ALIPHATIC DICARBOXYLIC ACID TO FOR A CHAIN POLYMER (THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE ACIDS BEING 3/4 TO 5/4 MOL PER MOL OF THE POLYAMINE), AND RENDERING THE CHAIN POLYMER THERMOSETTING BY REACTON WITH EPICHLOROHYDRIN. THE POLYMERS ARE WET STRENGTH RESINS FOR PAPER.
