Abstract

Abstract An electrostatographic printing machine employing sheet conveyance along a path through the machine from a supply source to a sheet output delivery point having at least two conveyor mechanisms adapted to convey sheets along the paper path each at a different speed and a switching device arranged between the two conveyor mechanisms operatively connected to a time sequence programming system which controls the feeding or introduction of sheets of paper from the supply point to the first of the conveyor mechanisms in the paper path.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 221 words
An electrostatographic printing machine having processing stations for producing electrostatic latent images, for developing the same with toner material, for fixing developed images upon copy sheets, and a programming system for controlling operation of the processing, including a copy sheet supply source having a stack of sheets arranged for the feeding of individual sheets to the machine, a sheet separating means for separating individual sheets from the stack when activated, first and second sheet conveying mechanisms arranged to define a paper path for the machine for the sheets of copy paper being processed therein, said first conveying mechanisms having a conveying action faster than the conveying action of said second conveying mechanism, said first conveying mechanism being arranged to deliver each sheet to a predetermined point whereat said second conveying mechanism is arranged to receive and continue the transportation of the sheets, a continuously movable sheet registration mechanism positioned adjacent said predetermined point adapted to register each sheet and retard the speed thereof to substantially the speed of said second conveying mechanism; and a control device including a switch actuated by said registration mechanism when said registration mechanism passes through said predetermined point, said switch being operatively connected to the programming system to effect the activation of said sheet separating means thereby introducing each separated sheet to said first conveying mechanism.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 221 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 66 words
The machine of claim 1 wherein said registration mechanism includes rotatable arms adapted to intercept the lead edge of each copy sheet and retard the speed thereof; and, magnetic means adapted for rotation with said arms, passage of said magnetic means past said switch when said arms are at said predetermined point causing said switch to be activated to effect activation of said sheet separating means.
