Abstract

Abstract Apparatus for ventilating cutter heads on mineral mining machines having an axially bored driven shaft, includes a fixed adaptor which is secured to the body of the machine and which is arranged to feed relatively low pressure dust suppression fluid along a tube extending along the bore of the driven shaft towards the cutter head and to feed relative high pressure fluid to a nozzle positioned within the bore of the driven shaft so that fluid discharged from the nozzle induces an air flow along the bore of the driven shaft. Thus, the apparatus permits ventilation of the cutter head by an induced air flow and feeding of dust suppression fluid by the cutter head.
