Abstract

Abstract A sound attenuating earcup assembly in which a rigid hemiellipsoidal cup formed with internal ribs and corresponding external grooves extending outwardly from adjacent to the center of the cup is provided with a generally inwardly extending ear aperture-forming surface which is closely complementarily contoured to the surface of a wearer''s head surrounding his ear and in which a uniformly thick, relatively thin resilient sealing pad is encased in a sealing pad envelope having a head engaging surface contoured like the cup surface and assembled over the surface to form a highly effective seal with the wearer''s head at all points around his ear and with the aperture-forming surface closely adjacent to the wearer''s head at all locations around the ear.
