Abstract

Abstract To remove quartz impurity from kaolin clay, the impure clay is formed into a well-deflocculated aqueous slip. A source of polyvalent metallic cations and an anionic polyelectrolyte flocculant are added. The slip is mildly agitated until flocs of quartz form and settle out from the deflocculated slip of purified kaolin clay. The slip of purified clay is recovered.
