Abstract

Abstract A process is described for the separation of heavy metals from solutions by treating solutions containing the heavy metals with partially dehydrochlorinated polyvinylchloride whose ability to complex heavy metals is enhanced by treatment with at least one reagent selected from the group consisting of urea, ammonia and amines and/or at least one reagent selected from the group consisting of thiols, thiazoles, dithiocarbamates, thiourea, guanidine, thiolignin, carbon disulfide, sodium hydrosulfide and thiocyanates.
