Abstract

Abstract Methods are provided for inducing labor in gestating mammals, including humans and valuable warm-blooded animals such as horses, cows, monkeys and pigs by systemically administering to a gestating mammal a pharmaceutical dosage unit form supplying an effective nontoxic amount for inducing labor of a member selected from the group consisting of PGE1, PGE2, PGE3, dihydro-PGE, PGF1 , PGF2 , PGF3 , dihydro-PGF1 , PGF1 , PGF2 , PGF3 , dihydroPGF1 , pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof, pharmaceutically-acceptable acylates thereof wherein the acyl radical is that of a lower alkanoic acid having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive and pharamaceutically-acceptable carboxylate esters thereof wherein the esterifying radical has 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive.
