Abstract

Abstract A single pole molded case circuit breaker is constructed with an internal metal frame to which the contact operating mechanism is mounted. This mechanism includes a releaseable cradle which when latched permits the circuit breaker contacts to be closed. The cradle is a single element having spaced parallel walls, a latching extension on one of these walls and a kicker on the other wall. When the cradle is released or tripped the kicker is engageable with a toggle interposed between the contacts and the cradle for collapsing the toggle to assure contact opening. Integral formation on the walls provide a pivotal mounting for the toggle. A reset pin is loosely mounted between the parallel walls for low friction resetting of cradle.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 151 words
A circuit breaker pole unit including a narrow insulating housing, cooperating movable and stationary contact means disposed within said housing, a manually operable spring powered operating mechanism for opening and closing said contact means; said mechanism including a releaseable cradle, a collapsible toggle interposed between said cradle and said movable contact means, and latch means for maintaining said cradle latched in an operating position wherein said operating mechanism is operable to close said contact means; automatic means for tripping said latch means responsive to predetermined abnormal current conditions thereby releasing said cradle whereby said contact means are opened by said mechanism; a metal frame within said housing; pin means pivotally mounting said cradle on said frame; said cradle including first and second spaced parallel walls, one of which has an extension engageable by said latch means; said walls on their confronting surfaces having integral bearing formations which pivotally support said toggle.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 151 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 1 also including a roller-type resetting means disposed between said walls.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 1 in which the cradle also includes an integral kicker operatively engageable with said toggle to collapse the latter when the cradle extension is released by the latch means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 3 in which the extension is integral with said first wall and generally parallel thereto; said kicker being integral with said second wall and extending toward said first wall.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 4 also including a roller-type resetting means disposed between said walls.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 1 in which the pin means extends between said arms and the ends of the pin means are supported on spaced bearing formations of the frame.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 40 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 1 in which the pin means includes a shaft keyed to said cradle whereby the angular position of said pin means is related to the angular position of said cradle.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 36 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 7 in which the pin means included a head at one end of the shaft; said including a formation for keying another mechanism to said cradle.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 37 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 8; said extension being integral with said first wall and generally parallel thereto; said kicker being integral with said second wall and extending toward said first wall.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 21 words
A circuit breaker pole unit as set forth in claim 9 also including a roller-type resetting means disposed between said walls.
