Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 131 words
A process for preparing substituted norbornene derivatives of the formula ##STR6## wherein R and R' are independently alkyl or alkylene groups of 1 to 20 carbon atoms provided that the total number of carbon atoms for R and R' is not greater than 20, or R and R' together with the ring carbons to which they are bonded form one or more saturated or unsaturated rings of 6 to 16 carbon atoms, or one of R and R' is hydrogen, said process comprising reacting cyclopentadiene or dicyclopentadiene with an olefin or a cycloolefin at a temperature between 100° and 300° C., at a pressure sufficient to maintain the reaction in liquid phase which is between 50 and 2500 psi and in the presence of a chlorinated or a brominated hydrocarbon solvent.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 131 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
A process of claim 1 wherein the temperature is between 240° and 280° C. and the solvent is a chlorinated hydrocarbon.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein one of R and R' is hydrogen and the reaction is carried out at a pressure of between 1400 and 2500 psi.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein R and R' are independently alkyl groups.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein one of R and R' is alkyl and the other alkenyl.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein R and R' are independently alkenyl groups.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 34 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein R and R' together with the ring carbons to which they are bonded form a saturated ring of 6 to 10 carbon atoms.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 34 words
A process of claim 2 for preparing a norbornene derivative wherein R and R' together with the ring carbons to which they are bonded form an unsaturated ring of 6 to 10 carbon atoms.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 20 words
A process of claim 3 wherein the other of R and R' is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 15 words
