A refractory composition consisting essentially of (1) no more than 99.7% by weight of a refractory aggregate, (2) not less than 0.3% by weight of ρ-alumina as a binder, (3) 0.2-8% by weight of glass powder, and (4) an effective amount of 2% by weight of dispersant, the amount of said dispersant being based on the total amount of said aggregate having a particle size no greater than 74 micrometers.
